Dick Fight Island Vol 1 Review

Reibun Ike’s Dick Fight Island has turned out to be the raunchy little BL manga that could, reaching #1 in Amazon’s Romance Manga and Yaoi & LGBTQ+ Manga categories and, much more surprisingly, #2 in Amazon’s Action & Adventure Manga category! I guess that tongue-in-cheek title was just that intriguing.

I’m going to tell you now, this manga is not even a little bit subtle.

Synopsis:

The legendary islands of Pulau Yong’Unda are a tropical paradise that has managed to remain fairly isolated from the rest of the world, allowing it’s people to maintain their unique cultures and traditions. One such custom involves selecting representatives from the tribes who inhabit each of the islands to compete is a tournament, the winner of which will be the next leader of the archipelago. The contestants participate in a series of battles, where they try to make each other orgasm. The first one to cum is the loser. As a result, over the years, the armor that the tournament participants wear has come to feature increasingly more elaborate, and threatening, codpieces. But the warriors have all overlooked one important part of their anatomy and their costumes leave their buttocks completely exposed. This is an oversight that Hart, the representative of the Jewel Clan who’s recently returned from studying abroad, intends to exploit. He’s come back to his home full of confidence, and armed with the knowledge of a secret technique that involves the hitherto unknown body part known as the prostate gland!

Review:

Dick Fight Island is irreverent, over-the-top and hilarious! I can’t tell you how many times I laughed at how ridiculous the story is, whether it was over how insane the battle costumes were, or at how sheltered these warriors, who spent years training to take place in a groping contest, apparently are (turns out, there are a fair number of people in Pulau Yong’Unda who were fully aware of the “secret” of the prostate gland). It’s an extremely funny read, on top of being sexy and, at times, even cute.

The battles between the contestants wound up being pretty exciting, with each warrior having a distinct combat style and techniques that reflect their island’s unique culture and characteristics. The warrior from the Sun Clan, for example, has a harpoon-like blade attached to his codpiece, as his people are fishermen, and he uses it to tear apart his opponents armor.

Well, that seems pretty dangerous!

I was surprised at how much world-building was put into this story, given how silly the premise is, but the differences between the various clans, and how that was reflected in their chosen warrior’s approach to the fights, wound up making the tournament matchups that much more exhilarating.

The battles were also pretty frickin’ hawt! This manga is quite explicit, with everything out on full display and only the most cursory of nods towards censoring the naughty-bits being given in the form of tiny censorship-bars, which don’t cover up much of anything. Honestly, the utter failure of the censorship-bars to obscure any of the genitalia is one of the funniest parts of the manga. I almost feel bad for the censorship-bars, they never stood a chance!

On the romance side, there are a number of couples and potential pairs to root for in Dick Fight Island. There’s Hart, who’s pinning for the lover he left behind when he returned for the tournament; Judah and Pisao, Hart’s childhood friends, who have grown very close while training together for this competition; Vampyr and Sicolenaga, the beautiful warrior of the Healer Clan and the Chosen of the Dragon Clan, who appear to have been nursing crushes on each other ever since Vampyr saved Sicolenaga’s life with his healing skills. And that’s just the beginning of the romantic drama that’s brewing at this tournament! A lot of these couples are actually super adorable and it’s a lot of fun to see them try to navigate their feelings for each other, while still striving to come out on top in the competition.

At least try to keep your head in the game, Judah!

Dick Fight Island was a humorous and entertaining Boys Love experience and I will be eagerly awaiting volume 2. I’m kind of sad that the series isn’t longer, I feel like I could read an endless number of books about this zany setting and cast of characters.

Final Score: 9.5 out of 10

What did you think of this manga? Which pairing is your favourite? Vampyr and Sicolenaga is my current favourite couple, but I honestly like them all.
